Founded in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi as a playing card company, Nintendo transformed into a global entertainment force through the revolutionary NES (1983), Game Boy (1989), Super Nintendo (1990), N64 (1996), Wii (2006), DS, 3DS, and the Nintendo Switch (2017). The Switch is the third best-selling gaming console of all time with over 139 million units sold. Nintendo's IP portfolio — Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Animal Crossing, and Kirby — represents the most beloved and valuable character franchises in gaming history.
