Panjab University, established in 1947 and relocated to Chandigarh in 1956, is one of India's oldest and most prestigious central universities. Spread across a 550-acre planned campus designed by Le Corbusier's architectural team (in Chandigarh, the planned city), PU offers programmes across 78 departments including arts, sciences, commerce, law, engineering, pharmacy, education, and management. The university is the affiliating body for 300+ colleges across Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. NAAC A+ graded, PU is ranked among the top 15 universities in NIRF. The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) and University Business School (UBS) are among its flagship professional schools. The vibrant campus hosts some of North India's most celebrated inter-university festivals including Youth and Heritage Festival and the legendary Muktsar Mela cultural week.
