PV Sindhu won gold at the 2019 BWF Badminton World Championship in Basel, Switzerland — defeating Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the final. It was India's first-ever gold medal at the BWF World Championships in women's singles, and made Sindhu the first Indian shuttler to win singles gold at the sport's premier non-Olympic event. Combined with her Rio silver and Tokyo bronze, the World Championship gold completed a remarkable major medal collection.
